A new community living room
With a project site in and up-and-coming suburb on the outskirts of Shanghai, JERDE's goal with the Jiadning City Plaza was to breathe new life into the area - to create a gathering place for the community, a new community living room. The project showcases a compelling model of urban development that integrates shopping, work, leisure, and residential living into one holistic urban lifestyle environment.

The projects three-and-a-half above grade retail levels, and one below, are set in an open-air environment, each level having its own energy and vibe, much like city streets. These streets, surrounding the terracing F&B wood clad central drum building, define the dramatic space of the open-air arcade. Each meandering "street" gives shoppers the chance to connect with brands in new ways, making shopping a process of discovery that is intuitive and exciting.
