JERDE announced that Phil Kim, Managing Director, Asia Pacific, has been elevated to Chair of the company's Board of Directors.  JERDE also announced the appointment of Mark Liu, Managing Director, China, to Board Secretary.

A Shareholder and Managing Director of Asia Pacific, Kim leads JERDE's operations in Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Australia and S.E. Asia. He first joined JERDE as a Senior Project Designer in Los Angeles as a core member of the design teams working around the world, including on projects such as Mall of America, Treasure Island in Las Vegas, Ise Shima Resorts, Universal City Osaka waterfront urban design, and Roppongi Hills in Tokyo. Kim also played an integral role in the development of the iconic Langham Place in Hong Kong and Cyberport, and in groundbreaking urban revitalization precincts at Quay Quarter Sydney and Queens Wharf Brisbane. Kim is expanding the firm's vision of experiential placemaking around the world, and is a favored speaker at conferences all over the world on topics of urban mixed-use environments, retail, urban revitalization, precinct strategy, vertical cities, and the sustainable value of place. As an industry leader with the Urban Land Institute, he is a Global Governing Trustee, Co-Chair of the education initiative UrbanPlan, and Chairman of the Hong Kong Council.
 
"Phil's institutional background, nuanced thinking, and stability contribute are ideal qualities for our Board Chair.  Phil knows what works in North America may not work in Asia or Latin America and vice versa", said Lopez.
 
Liu first joined the firm in 2013 as Senior Vice President, Director of Project Management, working out of JERDE's Los Angeles headquarters. He brought with him more than 26 years of international design and build experience, including a deep knowledge in advanced facades and specialty steel structures. Within his role at JERDE he implemented many important initiatives that improved the efficiency and quality of the firm's services. In September of 2015 Liu was relocated to China to take over a new role as the General Manager of JERDE's Shanghai office. Liu has made numerous critical contributions to the company, including building up both the office talent as well as the client base in the Chinese market.
