JERDE Named Best Architecture Firm by LA Downtown News

This region is an architectural hub with several highly respected global firms within blocks of our office, so this is a testament to our team—not only for their designs—but how hard we have all worked to become an integral part of the downtown community.

JERDE was named "Best Architecture/Design Firm" by the Los Angeles Downtown News.

The award was presented at the 31st Annual Best of Downtown Summer Soiree—an annual award show hosted by the Downtown News honoring the best businesses, services, and locations within the Greater Downtown Los Angeles region. Gensler was the previous winner in architecture and design.

"We are extremely grateful to receive this honor from the Downtown News within our first full-year headquartered Downtown," said Paul Martinkovic, JERDE Chief Executive Officer. In 2018 JERDE moved its long-time headquarters from Venice Beach to The CalEdison DTLA, a landmark historic office building in Downtown Los Angeles. The move, along with JERDE's business aspirations, were previously profiled by the Downtown News.

Recently, nearly 5 million square feet of large retail centers designed by JERDE have opened around the globe. This includes: Oxígeno, a 1.5 million square foot shopping destination in Costa Rica; Kashirskaya Plaza, a 2 million square foot retail center in Moscow, Russia: and the Powerlong One Mall, a 1.3 million square foot complex, which is the second phase of the Powerlong Xiamen International Center—a three-phased 4.3 million square foot mixed-use destination masterplanned by JERDE in Xiamen, China.

JERDE also announced this year that it has hired all executives and employees of Superjacent, a landscape architecture and urban design firm with experience designing more than 1,500 acres of open space around the globe and also based in DTLA. Superjacent is currently working on a wide range of projects along the West Coast including a new TOD masterplan for the City of Compton, new mixed-use residential and hotel projects throughout Los Angeles, as well as a creative office campus in the Arts District.
