- Huntington Beach, California 2015
- Site Area: 6.5 acres
Designed as a casual contemporary seaside village, Pacific City will be developed on 6.5 acres for 191,000 square feet of open air retail, restaurants and entertainment, and four acres for an eight-story hotel. The design of the retail (by Jerde) will provide maximum visitor experiences in the form of a unique destination for Surf City, and one which will become a source of pride and comfort for visitors and residents alike. Pacific City's retail maximizes the virtues of this great site, the views, proximity to the sea, history of the context, and positions the project as the premier destination in Huntington Beach. Based on a series of buildings cutting into and breaking up spaces along the primary retail armature, the buildings are designed to allow phenomenal views of the pier and ocean, complemented by a distinct spatial sequence and pedestrian pathways. Likewise, we aim to reduce the negative effects of wind for the visitor. This is done by strategic building layout and placement. Balancing vintage and modern, beach and elegant, this project will offer distinct retail and dining options within an experiential place. An abundant use of glass, overlooks and setbacks will enhance the light, airy and modern feel of the new village. It will feature sustainable design in the building materials and landscaping and use a natural color palate that reflects and complements the beach environment.
