- Kowloon, Hong Kong 2005
- Site Area: 4.75 acres | Total Building Area: 111,480 sqm
The project encompasses over 100,000 square meters of seamlessly integrated big box outlets, specialty retail, food court and signature restaurants, entertainment zone, Cineplex, a major automobile exhibition venue, 3 gathering and events spaces, and the largest ice rink in Hong Kong. The versatility of the project is stressed in the 19-story retail and entertainment world. Three major atrium and indoor plazas offer performance space. Express escalators establish a fluid vertical circulation. The symmetry and solidity of the massing and its distinctive vibrant red exterior lend the building an explicit iconic identity. Its dynamism is rooted in how it respectfully contrasts with the cold, hard appearance of the surrounding buildings, establishing itself as the major economic hub in Kowloon East’s central district. Two office towers rise from the wings, clad in neutral bluish grey curtain wall, they are strong contrast to the bold red podium beneath. From the harbour side, the podium is slightly faceted and notched towards the higher level where the arch shaped glass curtain wall looks out to the water. At night, the glowing beehive will be a permanent beacon on the Victoria Harbour.
